The Western Province is one of the four Provinces and the City of Kigali that make up the country. It is located in the western part of the country where it borders the Northern Province and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the north; the Southern Province to the east; Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the south; and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west.
The headquarters of the Province has been located in Karongi District, Bwishyura Sector, since January 2006 when it was established.
